SOUTH WINDSOR — A routine traffic stop early Sunday morning led to the arrest of a 47-year-old East Hartford woman on several charges, including operating under the influence for the second time and interfering with an officer, South Windsor police said.

Tanya A. Washington was taken into custody around 1:41 a.m. after an officer observed her vehicle approaching closely to his police cruiser during another traffic stop on 95 John Fitch Boulevard.

According to authorities, Washington’s car was only about a car length away before it moved to the left lane.

When the officer conducted a traffic stop, he reported that Washington appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, exhibiting signs such as slurred speech and the smell of alcohol on her breath.

Washington failed to comply with the officer’s instructions to exit her vehicle and did not consent to standardized field sobriety tests.

Washington was arrested on charges including operating an unregistered motor vehicle, operating under the influence (second offense), failure to slow or move over for an emergency vehicle, and interfering with an officer.

Following her arrest, Washington was processed and released on a $1,000 non-surety bond.

She is slated to appear in Manchester Superior Court on Nov. 18 at 9 a.m.
