BOSTON — A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of a Weymouth man for firearm-related offenses in the early hours of Saturday in Dorchester.
Boston Police Department officers, assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury), stopped a vehicle with an expired registration at Columbia Rd. and Holden St. at 2:10 a.m. The driver, identified as 22-year-old Cameron Leonard, and five other occupants were informed that the unregistered vehicle would be towed.
As officers issued an exit order and cleared the vehicle, they noticed Leonard’s suspicious behavior, consistent with someone carrying a firearm.
A pat-frisk revealed a hard metal object on Leonard’s person, and as officers attempted to detain him, Leonard fled.
Following a short pursuit, officers apprehended him and recovered a Sig Sauer, Model P320 M18, 9mm firearm from his hooded sweatshirt.
The weapon had a ten-round capacity magazine, seven rounds loaded, but no round chambered.
Leonard is facing charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Loaded Firearm, and Resisting Arrest.
He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
