Man arrested in Highgate for grand larceny warrant

HIGHGATE — In the early hours of Nov. 3, Vermont State Troopers apprehended 32-year-old Jhonatan Soraca-Almanza, a Chicago resident, on charges of grand larceny as a fugitive from justice.

U.S. Border Patrol agents initially detained Soraca-Almanza on Raven Drive after he provided a false ID.

Upon correct identification, an active warrant for his arrest was discovered, issued by Indiana with provisions for full extradition.

The charges correspond to grand larceny in Vermont.

Soraca-Almanza was taken into custody and processed at the St. Albans Barracks.

He was subsequently held at the Northwest State Correctional Facility on $25,000 bail.

A flash citation was issued for Soraca-Almanza to appear in the Vermont Superior Court, Franklin County Criminal Division, on Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. to respond to the charge.
