NORTHAMPTON — A brush fire in a local conservation area has reportedly doubled in size overnight to an estimated 40 acres, Northampton Fire Rescue said this morning.

The fire, which is burning through a valley and swamp within the conservation area, has not threatened any structures or residences.

Authorities confirmed that no evacuations are required and none are anticipated at this time.

Around 50 firefighters are actively working to contain and extinguish the blaze.

Efforts include the construction of fire lines, which are gaps in vegetation that can help stop the fire’s spread.

Residents are urged to avoid the area to ensure the safety of the emergency crews on the scene.

The Northampton Police Department will provide additional updates as more information becomes available.
