COHASSET — Cohasset police have arrested a Whitman man on charges of breaking and entering and larceny after he allegedly stole approximately $7,000 worth of composite decking material from a local lumber yard.
Jonathan Cutler, 50, was taken into custody on Thursday after a week-long investigation into the theft at the Cohasset lumber yard on Oct. 25.
According to an affidavit filed by Cohasset Police Detective Julie Hall with the Quincy District Court, security footage showed Cutler driving his Dodge Ram pickup through the woods to enter the lumber yard and using a forklift to load the stolen materials onto a trailer.
The break in the case came when investigators found a Craigslist ad offering decking materials similar to those stolen.
Posing as potential buyers, Cohasset detectives met with Cutler at his residence in Whitman.
Upon confirming the materials were indeed those taken from the lumber yard, detectives revealed their identities and arrested Cutler.
Recovered items were found at Cutler’s property, and the truck along with the trailer were seized.
Cutler, who was booked at Cohasset police headquarters and held without bail, faced arraignment in Quincy District Court on Nov. 1.
Cohasset Police Chief William Quigley commended Detectives Hall and Lieutenant Michael Lopes for their diligent work and also extended gratitude to the Whitman Police Department for their support in the case.
