SKOWHEGAN — A house fire on Waterville Road Thursday afternoon left one person with severe burns and in critical condition, prompting an investigation by the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office (FMO).
The Skowhegan Fire Department called in the FMO at about 3:04 p.m. to the scene at 706 Waterville Road, where firefighters were battling a blaze that had engulfed a home.
The injured person was rescued and immediately taken to Reddington-Fairview General Hospital, according to officials.
Life Flight was requested to transfer the burn victim to a specialized facility for further treatment, although the destination hospital was not immediately disclosed.
FMO investigators are expected to work through the evening to determine the cause of the fire.

Multiple fire departments, including Skowhegan, Waterville, Madison, Canaan, Fairfield, Norridgewock, and Cornville, were dispatched to assist with the fire.
