Coventry, CT man arrested on animal cruelty charges after dog fatally shot

COVENTRY — A local man was arrested on charges of animal cruelty following a police investigation into the fatal shooting of a canine, authorities said.

The Coventry Police Department apprehended Anthony Demitraszek, of 1067 South Street, on Oct. 24 after Community Service Officer Chipman conducted an investigation sparked by reports of a dog being shot and killed.

According to the police, the dog’s owner allegedly requested its killing due to the canine’s aggressive behavior.

Demitraszek faces charges under Connecticut General Statutes 53-247(b)(1), which pertains to cruelty to animals.

Following the establishment of probable cause, he was released on a non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 5 at the GA 19 courthouse in Rockville.

The investigation into this case is ongoing, and police anticipate that additional arrests may be made as new information comes to light.
