Boston police arrest man on drug trafficking charges in East Boston

BOSTON — A man was arrested by the Boston Police Department’s East Boston Drug Control Unit on charges of drug trafficking and other drug-related offenses on Oct. 30.

John Restiepo-Yepes, 29, of Revere, was taken into custody near McClellan Hwy. and Visconti Rd. in the Orient Heights neighborhood around 8:15 p.m. after officers observed suspicious activity consistent with illegal drug transactions.

Officers watched as a male entered Restiepo-Yepes’s vehicle in a parking lot known for drug activity on Bennington St. The vehicle soon after made a quick stop on Saratoga St.; the passenger exited and was stopped by police, who found him in possession of cocaine and summoned him to East Boston District Court.

Additional police units conducted a traffic stop of Restiepo-Yepes’s vehicle, during which he was observed trying to conceal an object.

A subsequent search led to the discovery of eight bags of cocaine, drug packaging materials, and an undisclosed amount of money.

Restiepo-Yepes faces several charges including Distribution Class B, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B, Trafficking Cocaine (18-36 grams), and Operating a Motor Vehicle without being Licensed.

He also had two outstanding arrest warrants for Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle and will be arraigned in East Boston District Court on these additional charges.
