Barre man arrested for DUI on drugs after traffic stop near Randolph

RANDOLPH — A Barre man was arrested early Thursday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs following a routine traffic stop by the Vermont State Police.

John A. Chastain, 34, was pulled over by troopers from the Royalton Barracks near the intersection of Route 66 and I89 Exit 4.

The stop occurred at approximately 1:09 a.m. after Chastain was observed committing a motor vehicle violation.

During the stop, authorities became suspicious of Chastain’s behavior and conducted a further investigation.

Based on their findings, troopers concluded that Chastain was operating his vehicle while impaired by drugs.

Chastain was taken into custody and transported to the Royalton Barracks for processing.

He was later released with a citation to appear in court on Jan. 22 to face charges related to the incident.
