NEWPORT — A 38-year-old Newport man has been charged with sexual assault and lewd and lascivious conduct after an extensive investigation by the Vermont State Police.
Authorities reported that on Aug. 27, at around 5 a.m., they were notified of a sexual assault occurring on Main Street in Newport.
The investigation, which included the comparison of DNA evidence, led to the establishment of probable cause implicating Christopher Gordon in the offenses.
After the investigation concluded, Gordon surrendered himself for processing on Oct. 30.
The Vermont State Police have not released the name of the victim, in line with their policy on cases of sexual assault and domestic violence.
As the case moves forward, additional details will be made available through the appropriate legal channels.
