NEWFANE — Autopsies conducted by the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington on Monday shed light on the deaths of an elderly couple found in their home last Friday.

Blake Prescott, 91, and Helen Prescott, 88, were discovered deceased in their residence on South Wardsboro Road.

The medical examiner concluded that Helen Prescott died from gunshot wounds to the torso, ruling her death a homicide.

Blake Prescott’s death was caused by a gunshot wound to the chest and was deemed a suicide.

The Prescotts, who had been married for over 70 years, had recently suffered significant declines in health.

In a statement relayed by the Vermont State Police, the family expressed that Blake and Helen “chose to die together as they’d lived together,” underscoring the couple’s enduring love and commitment.

While the Vermont State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, they have not released additional details at this time.
