Motorcycle and vehicle crash in Branford leads to DUI arrest, serious injuries

BRANFORD — A collision between a motorcycle and a vehicle at a local intersection resulted in serious injuries and an arrest on charges of impaired driving, police said.

The crash happened around 8 p.m. at the intersection of East Main Street and Mill Plain Road on Oct. 26.

The motorcycle was westbound on East Main Street when it collided with a vehicle turning eastbound onto Mill Plain Road.

The South-Central Connecticut Traffic Unit responded to the scene to assist Branford Police with the investigation, which revealed that the driver of the vehicle was impaired at the time of the accident.

David Lipnickas, 42, of Hamden, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs in violation of CGS 14-227a, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle under 14-12(a)*.

Lipnickas was released after posting a $50,000 bond.

The 22-year-old motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Authorities are seeking assistance from the public.
