GREENFIELD — A man was arrested early on October 25 after Massachusetts State Police discovered narcotics in his vehicle during a traffic stop on I-91.
Trooper Matthew Willhite, a recent graduate of the 90th Recruit Training Troop, and his Field Training Officer, Trooper Scott Boutell, were patrolling the area when they recognized a vehicle without valid license plates.
The vehicle had been towed from a previous stop, where the owner, Deven Barrette, 33, of Sheldon, was charged for operating without a valid driver’s license.
Barrette was spotted driving the same vehicle at 90 mph in a 65 mph zone on I-91 northbound.
After the troopers stopped the vehicle, they confirmed Barrette was the operator and placed him under arrest.
A search revealed a device containing suspected crack cocaine and a package of approximately 50 grams of suspected heroin, along with items used for packaging and selling illegal narcotics.
Barrette was booked at the Shelburne Falls Barracks with bail set at $10,000.
He was arraigned in Greenfield District Court on charges of trafficking in heroin/fentanyl, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, and a license plate violation.
