WATERBURY — A Hartford man was arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a local shoe store, police said.
Jose Rivera-Gonzalez, 52, was taken into custody on Oct. 23 following a search of his residence by Waterbury detectives and Hartford police.
The robbery occurred at Snipes on Oct. 15 at 6:26 p.m. A male suspect armed with a handgun threatened store employees and physically assaulted one before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.
An investigation by the Waterbury Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Bureau identified Rivera-Gonzalez as the suspect.
During the search of his home, detectives found evidence linking him to the robbery and seized ammunition.
Rivera-Gonzalez, a convicted felon, has an extensive criminal record including previous charges for robbery, kidnapping, firearm violations, unlawful restraint and larceny.
His last known case with Waterbury police was in 2013 for robbing a TD Bank, after which he was placed on federal probation.
He faces charges of first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, fifth-degree larceny and criminal possession of a firearm/ammunition.
Rivera-Gonzalez is being held by the Connecticut Department of Corrections on a $75,000 bond.
