READING — A Braintree man was charged with operating under the influence after Reading Police found him apparently asleep in his car on Main Street early Sunday morning.

Officers responded to the scene at 1:09 a.m. Oct. 27, where they discovered a black 2020 Toyota Rav4 stopped in the middle of the road with its driver, a 22-year-old male from Braintree, appearing to be unconscious while the vehicle was still in drive.

The police managed to wake the driver and secure the vehicle safely in park.

They observed front-end damage to the car, which seemed to have been involved in a minor collision.

Reading Fire Department personnel evaluated the man at the scene and later transported him to a nearby hospital for further assessment.

A field sobriety test conducted by the officers led them to determine that the man was nearly twice over the legal alcohol limit, with a blood alcohol level of .155.

The 22-year-old is being summoned to Woburn District Court on charges of operating under the influence of liquor and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
