WEST HAVEN — Three suspects, including two juveniles, were arrested Sunday after an attempted robbery was thwarted at a Walmart, police said.
At approximately 3:45 p.m., an off-duty West Haven police officer spotted a Hyundai with three masked occupants entering the city.
The officer followed the vehicle to the Walmart parking lot and alerted on-duty officers.
When police arrived, the Hyundai’s driver attempted to flee, ramming a police cruiser.
Officers blocked the vehicle to prevent escape and protect shoppers.
The three occupants fled on foot.
During the pursuit, a loaded 5-round revolver fell from the juvenile driver’s waistband.
He was apprehended after a brief struggle.
The backseat passenger, identified as Annand Edward Grady, 18, of Middletown, Connecticut, was quickly caught.
The third suspect, a juvenile, was found inside Walmart with assistance from bystanders and a K-9 unit.
Police discovered the Hyundai was stolen from Middletown.
Two additional firearms were found inside: a Ruger .40 caliber with a 21-round extended magazine and a fully loaded Springfield Armory 9mm.
All three suspects face multiple charges.
Their court dates are pending.
West Haven police urge holiday shoppers to remain vigilant, avoid carrying large bags, and refrain from using cellphones while walking to vehicles.
