Portland police seek information in 1994 arson death

PORTLAND — Portland police are seeking public assistance in solving a nearly 30-year-old arson case that resulted in the death of an elderly woman.

On Oct. 27, 1994, Maude Holden, 73, died from complications after a fire at her apartment building at 527-529 Washington Avenue.

Investigators ruled the blaze arson.

Holden was trapped inside the three-story, six-unit building and unable to escape, according to police.

Detective Hagerty is asking anyone with information about the case to call 207-874-8602.

Anonymous tips can be left on the department’s crime tip line at 207-874-8584 or texted to 847411 (TIP411) with the keyword “PPDME” followed by the message.

The Portland Police Department hopes new leads may help solve the decades-old homicide case.
