PLYMOUTH — A Plymouth man faces murder charges after allegedly shooting another man to death following a minor traffic incident Friday evening, authorities said.
David Jerome, 23, was arrested and charged with murder and several weapons offenses in connection with the fatal shooting of Brent Berkeley, 41, in a town parking lot on Middle Street, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J.
Cruz and Plymouth Police Chief Dana Flynn announced Saturday.
At approximately 5:45 p.m. Friday, Plymouth police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting in the parking lot.
Officers found Berkeley suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses identified Jerome as the suspect, leading to his arrest at the scene.
Investigators determined the shooting occurred after a minor traffic incident involving Berkeley’s Jeep SUV and Jerome’s Toyota RAV4 led to a physical altercation between the two men.
Jerome’s 18-month-old son was in a car seat in the RAV4 during the incident, authorities said.
In addition to murder, Jerome faces charges including discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, reckless endangerment of a child, improper storage of a firearm, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, improper storage of ammunition, and possession of a large capacity feeding device.
Jerome is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Plymouth District Court.
The investigation by Massachusetts State Police and Plymouth Police is ongoing.
