Huntington man arrested for burglary, resisting arrest

HUNTINGTON — A 32-year-old Huntington man was arrested Saturday morning after allegedly breaking into a residence and fleeing from police.

Dalton Haselton was taken into custody following a brief foot chase, according to Vermont State Police.

Troopers said Haselton entered a home on Main Road without permission while they were searching for him in connection with an assault that occurred the previous week.

When troopers entered the residence, Haselton fled on foot.

During the pursuit, he allegedly assaulted a police K9.

The dog was not injured.

Haselton was found to be in possession of a stolen .22 caliber handgun when apprehended, police said.

He faces charges of burglary, resisting arrest, cruelty to animals and possession of stolen property.

Haselton was processed at the Vermont State Police barracks in Williston and is being held on $10,000 bail at the Northwest Regional Correctional Facility.

Haselton is scheduled to be arraigned at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in Chittenden County Superior Court.

The victims in the case were identified as Katherine Smith, 69, and Theresa Haselton, 67, both of Huntington, and K9 Axel, 6, of Williston.
