West Haven man arrested after knife threat, victim deters attack with firearm

NORTH HAVEN — A West Haven man was arrested after allegedly threatening another person with a knife in a parking lot, police said.

Obadiah Claud, 45, was charged with second-degree threatening, illegal possession of a deadly weapon and second-degree breach of peace following the incident on Oct. 24, 2024.

North Haven police responded to 45 Quinnipiac Ave. at approximately 11:35 a.m. after receiving a report of a threatening involving a knife.

The victim, who was uninjured, told officers that Claud had charged at him with a knife in the parking lot.

The victim, who was legally carrying a firearm, drew his weapon and deterred the attack.

Claud then fled the scene in his vehicle.

Detectives later located Claud’s unoccupied vehicle in West Haven.

They found Claud nearby in a local business and took him into custody.

Police said interviews with those involved indicated the incident was not random, and there is no known threat to the public.

Claud is being held on a $50,000 bond.
