NEW BEDFORD — A 23-year-old man with multiple open cases was arrested Monday after police found him in possession of a loaded firearm in the city’s South End.

Guilherme “Gilly” Jalo of 106 Bullard Street was taken into custody at a bar on County Street after detectives received information about an armed individual in the area.

A search revealed Jalo was carrying a Lorcin L380 firearm with seven 9mm caliber rounds of ammunition.

Jalo faces charges of carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and having a firearm with a defaced serial number.

This arrest marks Jalo’s third in recent months.

He was among 15 individuals apprehended during a crackdown on the County Street bar district in late August, where he was charged with selling crack cocaine.

In April, Jalo allegedly provided false information to police to avoid arrest on an outstanding warrant.

Jalo now has seven open cases pending in New Bedford District Court.

Detectives Emily Pacheco and Matthew Couture made the arrest at 9:30 p.m.
