Elderly driver seriously injured in single-vehicle crash in Ferrisburgh

FERRISBURGH — An 82-year-old Charlotte man suffered serious injuries in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 7 near Tuppers Crossing on Thursday.

Douglas Cole was driving northbound in a 2023 Ford F-350 at approximately 10:54 a.m. when his vehicle left the lane, struck a culvert, and came to rest in an uncontrolled position, according to Vermont State Police.

Cole, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center with suspected serious injuries.

The vehicle was totaled in the crash.

Preliminary investigation suggests Cole may have experienced a medical event, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.

Weather conditions were clear, and the road was dry at the time of the incident.

State troopers responded to the scene and were assisted by the Addison County Sheriff’s Department, Ferrisburgh Fire Department, Vergennes Fire Department, and Vergennes Area Rescue Squad.

The crash remains under investigation.
