BOSTON — Members of the Boston Police Department’s Youth Violence Strike Force arrested a man on firearm charges Thursday evening after a traffic stop turned into a chase in the South End.

At about 8:17 p.m., officers patrolling near Massachusetts Avenue and Tremont Street spotted a vehicle speeding and attempted to pull it over.

The driver, identified as 25-year-old Kenrick Dixon of Boston, refused to comply and attempted to flee.

Police safely stopped the vehicle on Worcester Street.

As officers approached, they observed Dixon reaching toward the floorboard of the passenger seat.

Upon asking Dixon to exit the vehicle, a pat frisk was conducted which led to the discovery of a loaded ghost gun with four rounds in the magazine.

Dixon has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

He is set to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
