SOMERVILLE — A man was arrested Thursday morning after leading police on a foot chase through an Avalon Parking Garage, resulting in the discovery of a significant quantity of drugs and cash.
At 8:06 a.m. on Oct. 17, Somerville Police responded to a report of a suspicious individual looking into car windows at 333 Great River Road.
Security personnel alerted the officers to the suspect’s location in the garage and provided a detailed description.
The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Claude Pelissier of Everett, attempted to flee on foot when approached by police.
During the pursuit, he discarded a black backpack and eventually stopped due to exhaustion, admitting to having multiple warrants for his arrest.
Upon recovering the backpack, officers found a large stash of illicit drugs and $9,670 in cash.
The drugs included crack cocaine, powdered cocaine, morphine pills, liquid methadone, oxycodone pills, Gabapentin pills, Clonazepam pills, and 150 grams of marijuana.
There was also a significant quantity of methamphetamine over 28 grams, leading to a trafficking charge.
Pelissier faces charges of possession with intent to distribute various controlled substances, including subsequent offenses, and trafficking a class “B” substance.
The Somerville Police Department also seized a digital scale as part of the arrest.
The outstanding warrants from Malden and Boston were confirmed, adding to Pelissier’s list of charges.
He is currently being held by Somerville authorities as the investigation continues.
