Medway police warn of phone scam impersonating officers

1 min read

MEDWAY — Residents have been targeted by phone scammers pretending to be officers from the Medway Police Department, authorities warned Tuesday.

The scam involves callers claiming that the resident has an outstanding warrant and then demanding payment to “clear it up.” The Medway Police Department has issued a scam alert, emphasizing that these calls are fraudulent.

Officials stressed that the police will never request payment over the phone or ask for gift cards, wire transfers, or prepaid cards to resolve warrants.

These tactics are common among phone scammers who often use technology to spoof caller ID systems, making it appear as though the call is coming from the police department.

The Medway Police urge citizens to hang up immediately if they receive a suspicious call.

They also advise residents not to provide personal or financial information over the phone under any circumstances.

Anyone who is uncertain about the legitimacy of such a call is encouraged to contact the Medway Police Department directly at 508-533-3212 to verify the authenticity of the request.
