Chicopee police chase ends with crash at Westover Air Force Base, suspect in custody

CHICOPEE — A motor vehicle pursuit led by the Chicopee Police Department late Friday night ended abruptly when the suspect crashed through a side gate at Westover Air Force Base.

The incident, which involved multiple police cruisers, began around 10 p.m. on Oct. 18 and wound through the city streets before reaching the airbase.

According to authorities, the suspect’s vehicle forced its way through one of the base’s side gates.

The base’s security was not compromised during the event, the police department reported.

The suspect was apprehended and taken into custody following the breach.

Despite the aggressive nature of the chase and subsequent crash, no injuries were reported among the officers or the vehicle’s occupants.

However, several police cruisers sustained damage during the pursuit.

Details regarding the identity of the arrested individual and the charges they face have not been released due to the ongoing investigation.
