BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department arrested a Waltham man on Thursday evening after recovering hundreds of fraudulent checks during a traffic stop in Roxbury.

At about 5:50 p.m., officers assigned to District B-2 were patrolling Warren Street when they spotted a vehicle wanted in connection with an incident in Brookline.

Initiating a traffic stop, they activated their cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens.

The driver, 22-year-old O’Keif Mark, initially refused to cooperate, locking his doors and not rolling down his window.

After repeated requests from the officers, Mark complied.

Despite being asked to exit the vehicle, he refused once more before eventually stepping out and attempting to flee.

A struggle ensued as officers worked to detain Mark.

They managed to handcuff him and proceeded to search the vehicle, uncovering three envelopes containing numerous checks with different names, a Glock-style BB gun, and materials commonly used to remove ink from checks, including HEET water remover and brake fluid.

The search yielded approximately 236 fraudulent checks with a total value of $389,808.

Mark was charged with receiving stolen property over $1,200 and threats to commit a crime.

He is set to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
