Troopers make multiple DUI arrests, execute assault warrant in Rhode Island

PROVIDENCE — Rhode Island State Police arrested two individuals on DUI charges and executed an arrest warrant for simple assault following traffic stops in Providence and Smithfield.

On Thursday at 2 p.m., troopers apprehended Kajuan Carpenter, 24, of Providence, on a warrant for simple assault originating from the Newport Police Department.

The arrest occurred after a traffic stop on Manton Avenue.

Carpenter was processed at State Police Headquarters and later handed over to Newport authorities.

Early Friday at 12:46 a.m., William Kenney, 33, of Uxbridge, Massachusetts, was arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs, first offense, and refusal to submit to a chemical test.

This followed a vehicle stop on Route 295 in Smithfield.

Kenney was held overnight at State Police Headquarters awaiting arraignment.

Minutes earlier, at 12:43 a.m. Friday, Alvaro Chingo De La Cruz, 26, of New Bedford, Massachusetts, was also arrested for DUI, with a blood alcohol content of .15 or greater, after a stop on Cumerford Street in Providence.

Following processing and arraignment by a justice of the peace, Chingo De La Cruz was released to a responsible adult.
