SPRINGFIELD — A firearm was seized and three individuals were arrested Thursday evening after a teenager reported being assaulted with a gun by a group on a stolen golf cart, authorities said.

Springfield Police Department’s Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU), led by Sergeants Christopher Hitas and David Robillard, along with officers from Squad “C” responded to the incident on Wilbraham Avenue at around 6 p.m. A teenager had reported that an individual pointed a firearm at him from a golf cart carrying 4-5 other teenagers.

Detectives managed to locate and detain the golf cart occupants.

Two males, including 28-year-old Nelson Cruz of Springfield, attempted to flee.

Cruz is alleged to have thrown the firearm over a fence on the 300 block of Walnut Street before being apprehended.

The weapon was subsequently recovered.

Following the investigation, Cruz and two juveniles were arrested.

Cruz faces charges of carrying a firearm without a license and receiving stolen property valued over $1,200.

The golf cart was identified as stolen from American International College.

The individuals not charged were released, and due to their minor status, the names and specific charges against the juveniles are withheld.

The investigation is ongoing.
