South Portland road partially reopens after crash

1 min read

SOUTH PORTLAND — The South Portland Police Department announced that Maine Mall Road’s southbound lanes are now open to traffic following an earlier closure caused by a tractor-trailer collision with a utility pole.

The incident, which resulted in wires strewn across the roadway and the entrance to Mallside, prompted a temporary shutdown of the road between Gorham Road and Western Avenue.

As of the latest update, northbound traffic on Maine Mall Road is still limited to one lane between Gorham and Western.

Crews from Central Maine Power (CMP) and Consolidated are working on the scene to address the damage and facilitate the road’s full reopening.

The police department advises that work on the affected section is expected to be completed by 6 a.m., and further updates will be provided as the situation evolves.

Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes until the road is fully accessible.
