Poultney man faces third DUI charge after traffic stop

RUTLAND — Troopers from the Vermont State Police Rutland Barracks arrested a 69-year-old man from Poultney on DUI charges following a traffic stop on US 4 in West Rutland.

Peter Woelfel was pulled over for a motor vehicle violation on Oct. 17 at approximately 4:03 p.m. During the stop, troopers observed signs of impairment and conducted Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs).

Woelfel failed the tests and was taken into custody.

After being transported to the Rutland Barracks for processing, Woelfel was issued a citation to appear in Rutland Criminal Court on charges of DUI #3.

The incident adds to Woelfel’s history of DUI offenses, marking his third charge of driving under the influence.
