Two-car crash on Route 10 in Bernardston leads to injuries, road closure

BERNARDSTON — A two-vehicle accident on the 400 block of Northfield Rd (RT10) Thursday morning resulted in injuries and a temporary road closure, according to the Bernardston Police Department.

At approximately 7:39 a.m., police officers responded to the crash where they discovered that one vehicle had halted to turn into a driveway and was subsequently rear-ended by a second car.

The collision caused debris to scatter across the roadway, prompting authorities to close Route 10 for a short period while the scene was cleared.

Several individuals received medical treatment for injuries sustained during the accident and were transported to a local hospital.

The driver of the second vehicle was issued citations for using a mobile phone while operating a motor vehicle, under MGL ch.90 s.13B, and for negligent operation, under MGL ch.90 s.24E.

The Bernardston Police Department took the opportunity to remind the public about the importance of the hands-free law, warning that drivers observed with a phone in hand will be stopped.

The department extended gratitude to the Bernardston Fire Department, Northfield EMS, Friends of Northfield Police Department, and Bernardston DPW for their assistance.

Special thanks were also given to a witness who provided a crucial account of the event, helping to ensure the responsible party was held accountable.

The Bernardston Police urge all drivers to operate their vehicles safely and to adhere to traffic laws designed to protect everyone on the road.
