Somerville police arrest suspects in series of break-ins, robbery, and assault

SOMERVILLE — Police in Somerville have responded to a series of crimes over two days, including multiple break-ins, a robbery, and an assault, resulting in several arrests.

In the early hours of Oct. 10, officers were called to a residence on Prospect Street after a homeowner awoke to find an intruder in his bedroom attempting to steal his backpack.

The suspect fled the scene when confronted.

Later that same morning, at around 8:10 a.m., police responded to a reported break-in in progress on Line Street.

A male matching the suspect description was apprehended on the scene and arrested.

By midday, authorities were dispatched to Statue Park where a man was reportedly chasing people with an axe.

Upon arrival, police demanded the armed suspect drop the axe and subsequently took him into custody.

The evening of Oct. 12 saw further action as officers were summoned to 14 Broadway around 8:51 p.m., where a victim reported being attacked and robbed of his phone and cash.

Additional break-ins were reported on Oct. 11 and Oct. 12, with a bicycle theft from an enclosed porch on Pearl Street and an intrusion at a Concord Avenue residence where ceiling tiles were disturbed.

On the evening of Oct. 12, at approximately 6:47 p.m., police also dealt with an assault on Alewife Brook Parkway.

The victim described a traffic dispute escalating to the point where the other driver, a female, drove her vehicle at her but stopped short of making contact.

Officers have identified the female suspect.

Other crimes reported during this period included a car break-in, motor vehicle theft, four package thefts, a bike theft, motor vehicle vandalism, and one instance of vandalism.
