Needham police respond to series of fraud, larceny, and other incidents

NEEDHAM — A series of frauds, larcenies, and other incidents have kept the Needham Police Department busy with investigations and community advisories over the past week.

On Oct. 7, a forged check was reported at a Highland Avenue business at 9:56 a.m. That evening, at around 6:30 p.m., a Great Plain Avenue resident reported a suspicious male ringing her doorbell.

Later that night, at 10:42 p.m., an officer advised a Webster Street resident on fraud prevention after taking a report of fraud.

The next day, on Oct. 8, officers responded to incidents including a larceny report on Linden Street at 9:45 a.m. and a past larceny from a Cabot Street business at 12:30 p.m.

On Oct. 9, the police dealt with a variety of issues ranging from a report of suspicious activity on Laurel Drive at 2:17 p.m. to an alleged crypto investment scam reported by a 2nd Avenue resident at 5:21 p.m. An assault was also reported by a Natick resident at a Chestnut Street location at 7:40 p.m.

The police documented a breaking and entering into an unlocked motor vehicle on Stratford Road on Oct. 10 just after midnight, where $15.00 was stolen.

That morning, at 7:45 a.m., a Warren Street resident reported receiving suspicious calls and texts.

Later that day, a sick raccoon was humanely euthanized after being found at Rosemary Street and Highland Avenue at 4:35 p.m. A 29-year-old was summoned for operating a vehicle with a suspended license following a stop at 8:33 p.m.

On Oct. 11, a suspicious person on Laurel Drive was advised at 1:42 p.m. A walk-in from Broadmeadow Road reported fraudulent PayPal charges at 2:15 p.m., and a 23-year-old from Dedham was stopped and will be summoned to court for vehicle-related offenses at 1:59 p.m.

Attempted extortion over social media was reported at a B Street business on Oct. 12 at 12:19 a.m. A motor vehicle was reported stolen that evening at 9:57 p.m., and earlier, at 5:50 p.m., officers addressed a contractor disagreement on Central Avenue.

On Oct. 13, officers removed a road obstruction at the Highland Avenue and 128 Northbound off-ramp at 5:43 p.m. Earlier, at 2:40 p.m., property damage was documented at a Mann Avenue residence.

The reports of Oct. 14 included a dispatched officer to Edgewater Drive at 8:00 p.m. for two suspicious persons.
