1 min read

WILLIAMSBURG — At 9:39 a.m. Thursday, emergency services from Williamsburg and Goshen were called to the scene where a fallen tree and power lines obstructed the roadway at the Williamsburg-Goshen town line.

First responders found three telephone poles snapped with several cross arms resting atop the debris.

The Goshen Fire Department joined the scene to manage traffic and to extinguish a minor blaze that had ignited on their side of the incident.

As of 1 p.m., Route 9 remains shut down as crews work diligently to replace the poles and clear the area.

Authorities are urging motorists to find alternative routes and to exercise patience due to increased traffic on nearby roads.

Officials acknowledge the inconvenience and anticipate complaints but emphasize the limited number of responders available and the priority of ensuring safety while reopening the road.

Special recognition was given to the Northampton Control Dispatch Center, Williamsburg Highway Department, Goshen Fire and Police Departments, Plainfield Police, and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation for their collaborative efforts in the ongoing situation.
