Portland police arrest suspect in Forest Avenue shooting

PORTLAND — The Portland Police Department has announced the arrest of 19-year-old Dominic Moncada-Sanchez in connection with a shooting on Forest Avenue that left a 17-year-old injured.

Moncada-Sanchez, a Portland resident, was charged with aggravated attempted murder, elevated aggravated assault, and violating conditions of release.

He was apprehended on Oct. 15 at around 10:30 p.m. in South Portland with the help of the South Portland Police Department and transported to the Cumberland County Jail.

The shooting occurred early in the morning at 1390 Forest Avenue, where police found the teenage victim with a gunshot wound at approximately 2:21 a.m. The juvenile was rushed to Maine Medical Center with life-threatening injuries but has since been listed in stable condition.

The police credited the swift arrest to the collaborative efforts of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, and the South Portland PD.

The Portland Police are still investigating the incident and are calling on the public for any information that could assist in this case or others.
