WORCESTER — Worcester Police officers arrested a local man on charges of breaking and entering after he was caught allegedly stealing a laptop and a purse from a Belmont Street apartment on Oct. 14.
Responding to a report of a break-in, officers arrived at the scene to find surveillance footage of a male suspect climbing through an open window.
The individual, later identified as 43-year-old Rafael Gonzalez, was seen taking a laptop and a purse from the premises.
Shortly after the incident, Gonzalez was spotted by police riding his bicycle on Shrewsbury Street.
Upon noticing the officers, he accelerated and began weaving through traffic in an attempt to elude capture.
During the pursuit, Gonzalez was seen discarding a backpack, which officers later retrieved.
Inside the backpack, they found the stolen laptop and bolt cutters.
Gonzalez was apprehended and charged with Breaking and Entering in the Daytime to Commit a Felony, Larceny from A Building, Possession of Burglarious Instruments, Resisting Arrest, and Disorderly Conduct.
The purse reported stolen from the apartment has not been located.
