HINESBURG — A Hinesburg man was arrested late Friday night after crashing a stolen vehicle into a barn and attempting to flee the scene on foot, Vermont State Police said.
Joshua Jerger, 36, of Starksboro, was taken into custody shortly before midnight on Oct. 11 when troopers, responding to a report of an erratic driver on Gilman Road, found him walking away from the crash site.
Authorities said the vehicle Jerger had been driving was reported stolen from South Burlington, and he was found to be operating it with a criminally suspended license.
Troopers also noted signs of impairment and arrested Jerger on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
During the arrest, it was discovered that Jerger had two active warrants out of Addison County.
He refused to submit to drug testing and was subsequently charged with DUI drug refusal, leaving the scene of an accident (LSA), aggravated operating without the owner’s consent, and driving with a suspended license (DLS).
After processing at the Vermont State Police barracks in Williston, Jerger was lodged at Northwest State Correctional Facility.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
