BOSTON — Boston Police Department’s Drug Control Units arrested a 24-year-old man on firearm and drug charges Thursday afternoon following a drug investigation prompted by community complaints.

At approximately 2:20 p.m., officers from Districts A-1, D-4, and E-5 were conducting an operation at 75 Boylston Street when they observed two males engaging in what appeared to be a drug transaction.

One suspect was stopped and is facing a court summons for possession of Class B drugs.

The investigation continued on Winter Street, where officers approached the second suspect, Erick Matos, of Boston.

Matos tensed up and resisted when officers tried to handcuff him, but police were able to detain him after several verbal commands.

A search of Matos’s backpack revealed a loaded M&P Shield firearm with one round in the chamber and seven rounds in the magazine.

Additionally, officers found two plastic bags of Crack Cocaine.

Matos has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession with intent to distribute Class B, and distribution of Class B.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
