WATERBURY — A 42-year-old Waterbury man was arrested Wednesday after police received a tip about suspicious activity near a local business.
Vito Schiavo was apprehended by Waterbury Police Department officers and the Connecticut State Police Violent Crimes Task Force around 770 East Main St. at 3:15 p.m. on Sept. 27.
Officers found Schiavo carrying a BB gun in his waistband and drug paraphernalia.
Further investigation revealed he was a suspect in an earlier attempted armed robbery at the same location.
Schiavo, who has a criminal history including multiple arrests for firearms charges, assaults, and narcotics violations, also had an extraditable warrant from New Jersey.
He was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon, use of drug paraphernalia, criminal attempt robbery in the first degree, threatening in the first degree, and breach of peace in the second degree.
The arrest came after a concerned citizen alerted authorities to suspicious activity in the area.
Waterbury police did not release information about Schiavo’s court date or if he was being held on bond.
