TRUMBULL — Two Bridgeport residents were arrested early Tuesday after allegedly attempting to burglarize a work van in Trumbull.

Reynaldo Ayala, 23, and Nyleah Ramos, 22, both of Berkshire Avenue in Bridgeport, were apprehended by police as they tried to flee on a scooter around 12 a.m., authorities said.

Trumbull Police responded to reports of an active burglary at 30 Lindeman Drive.

Officers found Ayala operating a Honda scooter with Ramos as a passenger.

The suspects attempted to escape by driving between police vehicles and a building, resulting in a collision that caused Ramos to fall off the scooter.

A witness reported seeing two masked individuals enter the business’s rear parking lot on a scooter.

Ayala allegedly broke the driver’s window of a company van while Ramos acted as a lookout.

The targeted vehicle sustained damage to its driver’s door window, lock, and ignition.

Approximately $6,500 worth of tools and equipment were inside the van, according to the company.

Police recovered a backpack containing burglary tools, flashlights, and a car jack.

The Honda scooter was confirmed stolen from Stamford.

Ramos was treated for minor injuries at Bridgeport Hospital before being charged.

Both suspects face multiple charges including burglary, larceny, and possession of burglary tools.

Ayala and Ramos are each being held on $50,000 bond and are scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Oct. 17.
