Stamford man arrested with crack cocaine, second man caught with loaded gun

STAMFORD — A 37-year-old man was arrested after a short foot pursuit in the West Main Street and Rose Park Avenue area, Stamford Police Department said Monday.

Marcus Watson was taken into custody when officers found 3.8 grams of crack cocaine on him.

Following his arrest, 29-year-old Caleb Newell reportedly hurried to Watson’s residence.

Police later apprehended Newell attempting to escape in a car regularly driven by Watson, where they seized a loaded Ruger .22 caliber handgun.

Watson is facing several charges, including criminal possession of a firearm and narcotics.

He has been remanded to custody by his parole officer, as he is currently on special parole until 2028.

Newell has been charged with firearm possession and weapons violations.

Both Watson and Newell are expected to appear in court on Oct. 18.

The Stamford Police commend the work of their Narcotics and Organized Crime Squad, K9 Unit, and uniformed officers in the ongoing efforts to maintain community safety.
