East Greenwich residents arrested on casino cheating charges

EAST GREENWICH — In a series of arrests on Oct. 4, law enforcement officials cracked down on alleged casino cheating and other serious crimes across Rhode Island.

Guo Jin Chen, 69, and Lianjin Zheng, 61, both of 20 Teakwood Court, East Greenwich, were apprehended by members of the Gaming Enforcement Unit and the Wickford Barracks.

Chen faces nine counts of casino cheating and four counts of conspiracy, while Zheng faces eight counts of the same offenses.

Both individuals were processed and released on $5,000 personal recognizance after appearing before a Bail Commissioner.

Additionally, the Special Victims and Major Crimes Units, along with the Violent Fugitive Task Force, arrested 19-year-old Anthony H. Mello of East Providence on three counts of first-degree child molestation.

Mello was processed at State Police Headquarters and, after arraignment, was transported to the Adult Correctional Institutions to await further court proceedings.

The High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force made another significant arrest on the same day.

Melvin Hernandez, 43, of Central Falls, was charged with multiple counts related to the possession and intent to deliver cocaine.

Hernandez was processed at the Lincoln Barracks and held pending his arraignment in Sixth Division District Court.

A few days later, the Computer Crimes Unit/Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force arrested 25-year-old Jordan Castro of Providence on charges of possessing and transferring child pornography.

Castro was processed and arraigned with bail set at $5,000 personal recognizance, including conditions restricting internet access and unsupervised contact with minors.
