Man stabbed at Sanford Family Dollar, suspect sought

SANFORD — A stabbing incident at a Family Dollar store in Midtown Mall left a man injured and police seeking a suspect late Saturday night.

At 10:02 p.m., Sanford Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of a stabbing at the discount chain outlet.

Robert Wilson, 59, of Sanford, was discovered with multiple stab wounds.

Good Samaritans at the scene were providing first aid to control the bleeding when authorities arrived.

Wilson was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland at 10:20 p.m., where he is currently in stable condition, suffering from wounds to his back and left side.

Sanford Police detectives, notified at 10:17 p.m., immediately commenced an investigation, collecting evidence and statements from witnesses and seeking surveillance footage.

The suspect, a long-haired individual last spotted in blue jeans, a backward-facing hat, and a multi-colored hooded sweatshirt, fled northward.

At 10:24 p.m., the York County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit joined the search.

In addition to the stabbing, the suspect is accused of stealing a backpack from the crime scene.

Police have some leads on the suspect’s identity and are actively pursuing them.
