CHARLOTTE — A single-vehicle accident involving a Toyota 4-Runner left the car totaled and the driver with suspected minor injuries on Oct. 6.

Laurie McDonald, 62, of Boca Raton, Florida, was driving south on Dorset Street around 12:23 p.m. when she swerved to avoid an animal, causing her vehicle to strike a telephone pole at the intersection with Woodland Way.

Vermont State Police from the Williston Barracks responded to the scene to find the 4-Runner in a position of uncontrolled rest, entangled with the pole and impeding traffic.

McDonald, who was wearing her seat belt, did not show signs of impairment and did not require hospitalization.

The accident resulted in the closure of the roadway until 2:38 p.m. as emergency crews, including Charlotte Rescue, the Charlotte Fire Department, Green Mountain Power, and Ricks Towing, worked to clear the scene and restore order.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, but clear weather and good road conditions were reported at the time of the incident.
