Westbrook man faces sexual assault charges

WESTBROOK — Following an extensive investigation by the Westbrook Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, an arrest warrant was issued for 19-year-old Matthew Chapin on multiple sexual assault charges.

Chapin faces two counts of gross sexual assault, along with charges of unlawful sexual contact and unlawful sexual touching.

He turned himself in at the Westbrook Police Department on Wednesday and was subsequently transported to the Cumberland County Jail.

The Westbrook Police Department has not provided additional details regarding the circumstances leading to the charges.

The investigation is ongoing, and further information will be released as it becomes available.

Chapin’s arraignment date has not been disclosed, and it is unclear if he has obtained legal representation to respond to the allegations.
