WATERBURY — In a targeted response to community concerns over recent criminal activity, Waterbury Police Department officers apprehended a convicted felon found in possession of two loaded firearms on Sept. 30.
Lequincy Smith, 39, was arrested after a patrol by the Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) in the Burton Street and Hill Street area, a hotspot for reports of weapons, narcotics, and disturbances.
Smith attempted to escape and engaged in a physical altercation with the officers before being taken into custody.
During the arrest, officers discovered Smith carrying two loaded guns, one reported stolen, and an illegal high-capacity magazine.
As a felon, Smith is barred from owning firearms or ammunition and lacked a valid pistol permit.
Facing multiple charges, including Criminal Possession of a Firearm and Carrying a Pistol Without a Permit, Smith is currently held by the CT Department of Corrections with a bond set at $500,000.
The Waterbury Police Department continues to prioritize public safety and actively addresses the concerns raised by community members.
