MEXICO — A 69-year-old woman was the victim of a sexual assault shortly after midnight on Oct. 3, leading to the arrest of a Rumford man, authorities said.
The Oxford County Sheriff’s Office reported responding to a residence in Mexico, where the assault occurred.
The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, sustained minor injuries, including bruises and abrasions, along with the assault.
She was transported to Rumford Hospital for examination, treatment, and was later released.
Investigators identified 47-year-old Mark Sturtevant as the suspect.
Sturtevant, also from Rumford, was located by deputies and detectives, arrested, and charged with Gross Sexual Assault.
He was booked into the Oxford County Jail without incident.
Authorities described the incident as isolated and noted that the victim and Sturtevant had met in a public setting before the assault took place.
