One dead in Bethlehem house fire

BETHLEHEM — A house fire at 3457 Main St. on Oct. 4 claimed the life of one individual, according to officials.

New Hampshire State Fire Marshal Sean P. Toomey, Bethlehem Fire Chief Jack Anderson, and Bethlehem Police Chief Jeffrey Dube announced the fatality following the blaze that erupted around 10:23 p.m. Firefighters faced heavy flames and smoke upon arrival at the single-family home.

Efforts to extinguish the fire led to the discovery of the deceased person.

The identity of the victim and the cause of death are awaiting an autopsy scheduled for Oct. 6 at the NH State Medical Examiner’s Office in Concord.

Multiple fire departments, including Littleton, Twin Mountain, Whitefield, Jefferson, Franconia, and Sugar Hill, aided in the response, while Dalton and Groveton provided station coverage.

The NH State Fire Marshal’s Office, Bethlehem Fire Department, and Bethlehem Police Department are actively investigating the cause of the fire.

Marshal Toomey emphasized the importance of working smoke alarms and home fire escape plans.

He advised immediately exiting the home and calling 9-1-1 if smoke or fire is present.
