Cromwell couple found dead in apparent murder-suicide at rehab center

CROMWELL — The Cromwell Police Department is investigating a tragic incident at Apple Rehab on Berlin Road where an elderly couple was found deceased from gunshot wounds in what appears to be a murder-suicide.

At 10:58 a.m. on Oct. 4, police received multiple emergency calls regarding an active shooter at the rehabilitation center.

Responding officers quickly located the source of the disturbance in a room, where they discovered 81-year-old Barbara Brandt and her husband, 82-year-old Dennis Brandt, both dead.

Authorities have confirmed that the situation was isolated to Apple Rehab and there is no ongoing threat to the community.

The Cromwell Police Department’s Detective Division, the Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crime Unit, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are collaboratively conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

The Chief of Police, Frederick Sifodaskalakis, expressed his department’s commitment to conducting a comprehensive investigation and extended condolences to the family and friends of the Brandts during this difficult time.
